If you work all week here in the Fresno, California area, but you want to learn Tai Chi on Saturday, then this is for you. On Saturdays, there is a beginner Tai Chi Class that is great for beginners and people who are new to Tai Chi (and another more advanced at 11am (see below)). This class starts at 10am, and is held at Fresno's Woodward park. (The location is on the home page. See the map)
At 11am there is a Long form of Tai Chi Chuan that is gone over. This is the Sun Lutang lineage of Tai Chi Chuan and is not hard for even beginners to learn. It's great for those who already practice some sort of Martial Art or Tai Chi Chun, but want to add another set to their repertoire. (If you have researched Tai Chi in town, this is not to be confused with the other lineages of Sun Style. See our lineage chart. We are not associated with those other lineages.)
(NOTE: Times change from 10am & 11am to earlier times (8am & 10am in the hotter time of Summer)
Students are taught how to stand and hold the body in a way that keeps the flow of blood and energy, and that allows the force to be natural.
Having good Root is what students will learn, which stems from the stances we practice. But not only that; one learns to be light and agile when practicing.
The forms and postures taught will become be broken down so they become natural to the student, and will allow them to create a 'body memory' that will allow them to engrain them into the subconsious memory, so when a time should come when they need to act promptly, they will act naturally and not be clumsy and faulter.
We will then link the forms into what is called the Yang Tai chi 24 form set. This is the most commonly practiced set in the world. It is a shortened version of the long 108 form routine. It can be easily lmemorized and taken anywhere the student goes. (If you find yourself on vacation, you might run into a group practicing it!)
After that, if the student decides to stick around for the Sun style, they are free to stay and learn that style. The principals are the same, but the routine is different. Optional though.
All classes begin with around 10-15 minutes of Qigong. We practice a few of MANY that I have learned over the last 38 years.
