This is the first book about E 24 Form Tai Chi. The book has 514 pages with over 1,400 photos and 45-minute videos. It contains more photos than any tai chi book on the market. A clear, detailed explanation accompanies each image. There are comprehensive footwork diagrams for all the postures. Instructional videos are embedded in the Kindle version of the book. So, you can learn the new tai chi form on your own by reading this book and watching the instructional videos.
All the contemporary tai chi styles and forms should be regarded as 2-dimensional (2D) exercises because the arms are seldom raised overhead or extended to the sides. Indeed, you can extend your arms to the sides in a couple of tai chi postures, such as Single Whip and Reverse Reeling Forearm. And you can raise your arms over the head when you perform White Crane Spreads Its Wings, Back and Forth Shuttle, and Fan Through Back. But these postures are only a few exceptions.
The 24 Form Simplified Tai Chi (24 Form Simplified Taijiquan), created by the Chinese Sports Committee in 1956, is the most popular tai chi form in the world. This form of tai chi, known as the Simplified 24 Form, is abbreviated as the S 24 Form in the book.
Here, you see a three-dimensional (3D) tai chi form that no one has ever seen before. I developed this three-dimensional form of tai chi on the basis of the S 24 form. By incorporating the six E Tai Chi hand/arm movements into all the postures in the S 24 Form, I have converted the S 24 Form into a three-dimensional (3D) tai chi exercise. I call this new form of tai chi E-Tai-Chi-Style 24 Form Tai Chi, abbreviated as E 24 Form Tai Chi, or simply as the E 24 Form.
Every posture in the E 24 Form is three-dimensional (3D). In each of these newly designed postures, not only do you extend your arms forward and to the sides horizontally, but you raise them over the head vertically or obliquely. In other words, you can spread your arms out and open your chest. You can breathe more freely and smoothly so that the efficacy of breathing exercises will be improved. You can exercise more body parts and feel more relaxed and calmer when performing these 3D movements.
In the E 24 Form (E 24 Form Tai Chi), I have preserved the posture names and the posture sequence used in the S 24 Form so that you do not need to remember a new sequence of tai chi postures if you know how to practice the S 24 Form. Hence, you can learn the E 24 Form easily and quickly. Indeed, I have made some modifications to the footwork in order to improve safety. But the significant modifications in the footwork are only seen when you make turns. With regard to the final position of each posture, there is no difference between the S 24 Form and the E 24 Form. As the proverb says, “All roads lead to Rome.” No matter how the 3D movements are played or how the footwork is modified, you can get into the same final position of each posture in the S 24 Form.
I divide the 24-posture sequence of the E 24 Form into two equal parts. The first part includes the first 12 postures that do not require kicks, single-leg standing, and squats. I call the first part the basic sequence of the E 24 Form. The basic sequence is particularly beneficial in stress reduction because it involves only smooth, soft, continuous movements. The advanced sequence consists of all the postures (24 postures) in the E 24 Form. In the second part of the whole sequence, you need to kick, stand on one leg, and squat. So, practicing the advanced sequence is more effective in improving balance, strength, and posture. It usually takes 10 to 14 minutes to finish the advanced sequence. The basic sequence that requires only 6 to 9 minutes to complete is especially suitable for older practitioners.
