The Benefits of Practicing Tai Chi

For more than 25 years, I have devoted my training to the practice of Tai Chi, Qigong, and Internal Kung Fu. My journey has taken me deep into three powerful lineages: Wu Style (small frame), Yang Ban Hou, and Sun Style. Each of these traditions carries unique methods of cultivating balance, strength, and inner calm — while also preserving their martial roots.

Wu Style (Small Frame)

Wu Style Tai Chi, particularly the small frame, is known for its subtle movements and compact energy. This style teaches practitioners to refine internal sensitivity and conserve energy. With careful posture, alignment, and intent, Wu Style helps open pathways for Qi to circulate freely, creating both health benefits and martial applications.

Yang Ban Hou Lineage

The Yang family system is one of the most widely practiced in the world, but the Yang Ban Hou branch carries a depth of martial tradition. Its fast-and-slow tempo trains agility and responsiveness. Practicing this style connects us to the origins of Tai Chi as a true martial art, blending grace with powerful martial intent.

Sun Style Tai Chi

Sun Style Tai Chi, developed by Sun Lutang, is unique for its agile steps and smooth transitions. With roots in Xing Yi and Bagua as well, this style is highly dynamic and excellent for health. It emphasizes open, flowing movements and encourages practitioners to maintain lightness in both body and spirit.

The Role of Qigong and Internal Kung Fu

Alongside Tai Chi, I’ve practiced Qigong and Internal Kung Fu for decades. These internal arts strengthen the body from the inside out, nourish the organs, and cultivate inner peace. Together with Tai Chi, they form a complete system of wellness and martial refinement that can be practiced for life.

Why Tai Chi is More Relevant Than Ever

Today, Tai Chi is not only for martial artists but also for anyone seeking health, longevity, and stress relief. Studies confirm its ability to improve balance, lower blood pressure, and reduce anxiety. But for those of us who train in the traditional way, Tai Chi is also a martial discipline — a way to sharpen awareness, refine energy, and maintain resilience in both body and mind.
