The Five Animal Frolics is an ancient Qigong practice that has been practiced for 2,000 years. It is a good routine for people seeking to balance the yin and yang energies of the body. It helps improve the function of the lungs, heart, stomach, kidneys, and liver. Also aiding in the balance of emotions this set will improve any anger or sadness imbalances.
Hua Tuo is the one who created this routine. He was a Taoist sage, and a herbalist, and practiced other Chinese medicine modalities. Living in a small village he felt an urgency to learn from the animals so that he could help his village live longer and more prosperous lives. Legend has it that he went out into the forests to gain knowledge from the animals and he formed this healthy routine based on what he had learned. His teachers include the crane, monkey, bear, deer, and tiger. Today people can learn from the sage by watching wildlife and adopting some of their healthy creative personality traits.
One of the disciples of Hua Tuo, Wu Pu practiced this routine every day and he lived beyond 100 years. Much like what Dr. Oz has recently said if you want to live to be over 100, PRACTICE QIGONG. 🙂 🙂
Nathan has been teaching this set for over 12 years. He encourages all of his students to learn this graceful form of practice. Not only does this help the physical health, but these movements along with the proper alignment aid the emotional/spiritual body. So put a soft smile on your face and practice along. The ultimate lesson that this Qigong set teaches is to be one with nature and be happy.
