Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice. The Yang-style Tai Chi style is one of the most widely practiced forms of martial arts in the world. Famous for its graceful and gently flowing movements, Tai Chi emphasizes calming the mind and releasing mental and physical tension.

Since I tend to be very analytical with a high degree of Black/White thinking, and a being type A personality with perfectionistic traits, I need movement rather than sitting in a Yoga/meditation pose (which yoga didn’t work for me). I use Tai Chi to help myself recover from chronic health issues, to drop out of my mind and into my body allowing the Left and Right hemispheres of the brain to work together.

You will learn not only proper form and meditation, but also the self-defense aspect of the art as the founders of Tai Chi intended. Originally developed to enhance longevity, Tai Chi is a complete health maintenance system. A few minutes a day spent practicing will help prevent stress-induced illnesses like high blood pressure, digestive problems, and heart disease. Tai Chi also improves balance, flexibility, coordination, leg strength, and self-defense ability.

While this video provides support for the traditional Tai Chi Chuan Yang style form, one should get instruction and guidance from individual lessons from a trained expert, as it can be difficult to critic one’s self. However, you can still receive many benefits by following this video alone too.
