Tai Chi postures are done for various reasons, such as stretching or strengthening the body. Every posture has within it a martial application which gives you an idea of the martial intent for each posture. This can help unlock aspects of your movement and your understanding of what each posture represents.
When learning Tai Chi with the WTBA, you will learn at least one basic martial application for every posture/movement learned in the solo form. It’s important not to take any posture or training method in Tai Chi and apply it exactly as it is done in training, to a fighting situation. Instead, we try to take the essence of the movements and use those principles for self-defense.
