The renowned Cantonese musician Lü Wencheng (吕文成, pinyin: Lǚ Wénchéng, or Lui Man-Sing in Cantonese; 1898-1981) performs “Shen Gong Yuan”《深宫怨》(Yearning in the Palace).

Instrumentation: low-tuned nanhu (erhu–2-string vertical fiddle), dagu (large drum), pipa (pear-shaped lute), guzheng (plucked zither), xiao (vertical bamboo flute), dingling (pair of small bells).

This recording is Side B, track 2 from the LP recording “Chinese Masterpieces for the Erh-hu,” performed by Lui Man-Sing and his Group, released by Lyrichord Records in the United States, probably in 1969 (catalog number LLST 7132).
