One of the most dangerous self defense situations you can find yourself in is empty hand self defense versus a knife wielding opponent. The techniques shown here from Bagua Kuntao Silat are from the Green Dragon Swimming Form, an intermediate form of the Bagua Kuntao Silat System. They are shown in a slowed down manner with strikes and throws intentionally diminished, but with enough power and speed to demonstrate the necessary structure changes and timing required for effective defense should the practitioner find themselves in such a dire circumstance.

This is an instructional video, and not a video to highlight the destruction of the techniques, however, the viewer can easily observe the nature and impact of the movements as well as how it translates into fighting and self defense. Basic and fundamental understanding of center control as well as proper use of silk reeling for effective groundpath usage when striking and stepping is necessary to properly strike and break the opponent’s structure and manipulate their skeleton.

This video instructs several methods of defense against the knife attacker once contact has been made. Bridge Hands training as shown in previous Bagua Kuntao Silat will assist with sticking to the opponent’s arm while pinning the arm and evading the path of the blade when making a strike when stepping.

This first video in a series of three videos offered for free to the public, this video shows the most common method of knife attack against an individual in the street with the most commonly used and available knife as a weapon as it’s cheap and ubiquitous.
