A study of Heng Quan, Xingyiquan’s fifth “element” or action. The technique is largely misunderstood amongst many practitioners.

Sun Lu Tang states “If the crossing technique is not correct, every posture will lack form. Though all the techniques are distinct, this point applies to all of them. The crossing technique is the most important in Xingyi. You have to analyze it in detail.”

Li Jianqiu states, “The function of this technique is not to go straight forward but to go across, hence it is called “crossing”.
When practicing it, the elbow should be tightly wrapped in and the rear fist comes out from under the elbow of the front arm. Remember this.”

Liu Wenhua states, “The posture seems to be elastic, a springy round thing. With roundness, the upper body and lower will coordinate with each other. In the crossing technique, the elbow attacks and simultaneously defends.”

I hold Xingyi and Bagua Class every Saturday morning at 7am, and Sun Style Taiji class at 8am, where we cover the forms, applications, and strategies of Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, and Taijiquan.
