In this video I walk us through how applying the concepts of yin & yang can resolve your neck and shoulder pain.

If you’re new to my channel, my name is Jonathan Breshin. I’m the founder or Root of Movement Internal Arts. It’s a health education training company, teaching through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Martial Arts.

I’ve been working with adults professionally since 2016 when I became a certified instructor after training for 6 years (I started in 2010).

Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, here is my story.

How I got here…

20 yrs old: Graduated SUNY Delhi University and entered the workforce working in the electrical trades.

21yrs old: Working as a jr. an electrical mechanic in NYC I developed debilitating wrist pain.

22 yrs old: Underwent 2 wrist surgeries, 2 rounds of physical therapy, 3 rounds of cortisone injections and a bunch of painkillers. All without lasting relief.

23 yrs old: Left the electrical field to give my wrist a rest but remained in the trades in a less physically demanding role working as a Local 94 Operating Engineer.

24-27 yrs old: I learned to live with chronic pain which became my new normal.

28 yrs old: Left the trades to enter the consulting world, working in a business development capacity within the NYC commercial real estate space. I needed to give my body a rest.

29 yrs old: I was introduced to Chinese medicine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese martial arts, Ba Gua Zhang, Qi Gong and Nei Gong for the first time in my life. In desperation, I started training with a world renowned Chinese medicine practitioner and Martial Artist in hopes of eliminating my wrist pain. It worked!

30 yrs old: Healed my wrist (and now back) pain by developing a daily practice of the arts I was learning and became hooked.

31 yrs old: Started taking classes in Traditional Chinese medicine and became certified in Tui Na (Chinese medical massage).

35 yrs old: Traveled to China to train intensively with some of my teachers’ teachers. This was the hardest training I had ever endured up to this point. It was also the most transformative.

36 yrs old: Became a certified instructor and started Root of Movement to help people avoid going through the same hell as I went through. There was never anything wrong with my wrist, it was how I was moving, breathing and holding myself throughout the course of my life which perpetuated the pain and settled in my wrist and eventually my neck and back.

37-40 yrs old: Trained hundreds of people through workshops, weekly in-person classes, online classes and one-on-one programs.

41 yrs old: Traveled to Italy to an intensive week long training where I was elevated to senior instructor under my teacher.

42 yrs old: Enrolled in a graduate program to become a licensed Chinese medicine practitioner and Acupuncturist after years of taking classes and accumulating several certifications.

Today: I teach one-on-one, in person and online, while running weekly classes and starting an online community… while going to school.

To all the adults struggling and feeling stuck, there are real solutions out there.

These arts have withstood the test of time because they are effective and enhance the quality of life. They are safe and natural, holistic approaches but can take some time to see the results.

Whether you’re in good shape already and you’re just looking to maintain health and resilience or you’re feeling rough and need relief, balance and regulation, when you fully take this on for yourself- the journey is amazing.

Your body’s a remarkable healing machine that just needs the right attention, you just need to reorient yourself with it. It will reveal to you what it needs to feel better when you start paying closer.

Never give up and remain open to new approaches,

Jonathan
