Neigong [Tai Chi] (2018)

Neigong means “Internal Work.” While external work would imply relying mostly on strength, neigong means more work with internal body mechanics, aim, focus, and sensitivity of touch.

Through practice of neigong, you must learn to accurately discern what is happening with your body by feel, and with your opponent’s body by touch. Without doing so, you are more or less “shooting in the dark.” If you cannot sense what it is you have your hands on, you cannot meaningfully affect it. If you can not discern what it is you are touching, you cannot aim where they are weak or stiff.

Pushing someone with proper neigong might look to other like magic- not because you are doing something mystical, but because you are affecting something they don’t see.
