Beng Quan, or ‘Crushing Fist’ is the second element of the five elements of Xing Yi Quan. It’s represented by the Wood element in Chinese qigong theory. As the name suggests, Beng Quan hits with a solid force behind it, like a battering ram.

The elements are best viewed as ideas or concepts instead of single applications, but here Manoj and Andrew demonstrate an idea for using the beng quan movements straight from the form. The idea is to create space with a forward/backward movement of the arms, then slam back into the space that was created. With padwork it’s not as clean as a form movement, but the idea’s the same.

Seattle Xinyi-Dao is a group of martial artists who have been practicing the art of Xinyi-Dao for over 10 years. Xinyi-Dao is a system created by Master Li Tai Liang. It is a blend of Dai Xin Yi and Che Xing Yi with elements from Bagua and Tai Chi. Our group places heavy emphasis on the fundamental exercises and body skills that are core to the art. We’re looking to share this great art with other interested and/or experienced practitioners who are open to learning.
